The primary cast of characters in “The Squid Game” each vaguely reflects a different segment of contemporary society.

In this nine-part dystopian series, participants of the Squid Game, both wealthy and impoverished, strive for the main reward: billions of Korean won, which is more than sufficient for them to wipe off all loans and start over.

The participants collude with one another, betray one another, and do whatever else is required of them to live and triumph.

Who exactly are the most important members of the cast of Squid Game? What are their histories, and why are they a part of the game in the first place? And of course, have you ever seen any of the performers that are featured in Squid Game in any other films or television shows?

Gi-hun now has an even stronger motivation to compete in and triumph in the games after learning that his mother suffers from diabetes and requires surgery. The character that Seong Gi-hun plays in Squid Game is similar in some ways to Adam Sandler’s Howard Ratner from the movie Uncut Gems.

Gi-hun is played by model-turned-actor Lee Jung-Jae, who previously appeared as Grand Prince Suyang in the historic thriller The Face Reader (2013) and in Il Mare (2000), the latter of which being the film that served as the basis for The Lake House.
