Why Did Kyojuro Rengoku Have To Die In A Mugen Train?

One of the characters in Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train passes away in a tragic way. Here are the reasons why this character’s death had to take place in order for the series to continue.

CAUTION: The following discussion about Demon Slayer will reveal plot details: Mugen Train

The tragic conclusion of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train was the passing of Kyojuro Rengoku, yet it was a tragedy that was unavoidable. Rengoku was forced to take the ultimate sacrifice in order to advance not just his and Tanjiro’s characters but also the overall storyline of the Demon Slayer series.

His passing will leave a significant void in the Demon Slayer Corps, but it will also help to forward the plot and the young demon slayers into the Entertainment District Arc and the Swordsmith Village Arc that will be featured in Demon Slayer season 3. However, why did it need to happen to this beloved character?

SADDEST DEATHS In The DEMON SLAYER Manga

Kyojuro Rengoku is one of the most powerful members of the core squad of Demon Slayer because of his role as the Flame Hashira.

Rengoku attained one of the most esteemed positions in the Corps as a result of his great resolve and almost unstoppable swordsmanship. This was the result of years of Rengoku devoting himself to his trade and working his way up through the ranks.

Rengoku was the natural option to fill the role of Hashira when the group required someone to direct Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko in vanquishing the demon that was inhabiting the Mugen train.

Rengoku’s fight versus the evil demons on the Mugen train in the Demon Slayer film was good enough to elicit appreciation from even Inosuke, and Rengoku made sure that none of the train’s around 200 passengers passed away as a result of his actions.

Sadly, Rengoku was unable to prevail over Akaza, the Upper Rank Three demon, despite having come so close to doing so before. Although this passing is without a doubt one of the most heartbreaking in Demon Slayer, it takes place for a number of significant and consequential reasons.

The Justification Behind Why Kyojuro Rengoku’s Death Had to Take Place in “Demon Slayer”

Rengoku’s act of self-sacrifice in Demon Slayer was a wrenching scene to see, however, it was entirely appropriate for his character and the direction the plot was taking in the film.

Rengoku believes that he is no better than a normal human being who has put in a lot of effort to develop his talents; he does not consider himself to be exceptional.

Nevertheless, he does recognize that Tanjiro is unique, and this is the reason why he is willing to put his own life in danger rather than Tanjiro’s.

Tanjro, the young slayer, has a great deal of respect for Rengoku and is even moved to tears by Akaza’s audacity in claiming that Rengoku was the one who came out on top in their fight.

His passing acts as a source of inspiration for the young slayer. Tanjiro now has something to work for as a result of Rengoku’s passing, and this is particularly true when the Flame Hashira revealed the trust he has in Tanjiro as well as his acceptance of Nezuko.

At the moment of his death, Rengoku was widely considered to be the most powerful Demon Slayer Hashira in existence.

Because his mother had instilled in him, from the time he was a little boy, the idea that the reason for his power was to defend other people, he was loyal to his role within the Demon Slayer core. Mugen Train demonstrates that he maintained that belief till the day he passed away.

He offered himself up as a sacrifice so that his objective would be accomplished without the loss of any innocent life.

Because Rengoku’s mother trained him that his power should never be employed to bring damage to others, he was capable of resisting the urge to become a demon and use his power for evil. This lesson was just as vital as the first.

Rengoku became such a formidable opponent thanks to his iron resolve that he came dangerously close to eliminating an Upper Rank demon on his own.

Due to the fact that this ability rendered Rengoku a significant danger afterward in the series, it is in the best interest of the narrative for him to pass away in Mugen Train instead of surviving.

The game Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has given an emotional boost thanks, in part, to the death of Rengoku. Although the audience’s feelings were broken by Rengoku’s death, the brighter visions of the slayers provided a couple of heartwarming and clean times to the viewers.

His role in the story was initially intended to be more of a humorous counterpoint to the storyline, however, once he was killed off, the film was able to dive into the more significant aspects of his past.

Rengoku buried some substantial intelligence under his intimidating exterior, despite the fact that he seemed to be all muscle.

The young slayers take the lessons they learned from his enlightened perspective on life, death, and their role in the war against demons with them from Demon Slayer: Mugen Train into Demon Slayer’s second season and further than that. His outlook on life, death, and their mission in the war against demons is beautiful.

How the Death of Kyojuro Prepares for Future Episodes of “Demon Slayer”

The younger Slayers will be shaped by Rengoku’s passing throughout the whole shelf life of the series. Rengoku plays an important component in the growth of Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke as individuals and as fighters since he is the first Hashira that the three young heroes of Demon Slayer formally associate.

The terrible power wielded by Muzan Kibutsuji is a persistent danger that hangs over each new season of Demon Slayer, and the killing of Rengoku is one instance in which this fact becomes glaringly obvious.

In a similar vein, his passing compels them to abruptly and dramatically grow as they come to terms with the breadth and depth of the threat that demons provide to the world.

As Tanjiro and his comrades battle with Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui in the Entertainment District Arc of Demon Slayer season 2, they are acutely conscious of how serious the risks are since they had witnessed somebody as strong as Rengoku perish while battling an Upper Rank demon.

Having met the Mist and Love Hashiras, Muichiro Tokito, and Mitsuri Kanroji in previous seasons of Demon Slayer, the youthful slayers are likely to continue with a similar outlook in the upcoming 3rd season. In this sense, the passing of Kyojuro Rengoku in Demon Slayer: Mugen Train remains a form of motivation and drive even into the latter seasons of the series.
